We truly believe travel teaches you so much, the biggest being an appreciation and love for different cultures, food, people and our planet. We also believe that adventure and travel doesn’t have to stop after you have a child, in fact travelling with your child opens your mind and heart like nothing else. We have been travelling with our son since he was 3 months old and it has been one of the most rewarding and fulfilling things we have done. to see the world through the eyes of a child is incredible and there is much to learn from them! We wish we could see the world with half as much wonder as he does!
One of your most memorable journeys so far and why?
We would have to say the year of 2018 has been a very special year because the whole year felt like a journey. In 2018 we challenged ourselves to do #12months12trips. At that time Kabir was barely 1.5 years old and we had no idea how we would achieve this with a toddler. But we did it and it has truly been the year that changed our lives.
What are the various things you keep in mind, when you decide for a trip?
We start with how many days we have. Based on that we decide how far we can go. Will it be a road trip, a flight away within India or an international trip. And along with this we also keep in mind the budget we have and also if the place is easily do-able with a child in tow.
Travel for us is more than just seeing new places. It is about expanding our horizons and pushing ourselves out of our comfort zone. We truly believe that life must be lived outside our comfort zone – because that’s where the magic happens!
What kind of food/snacks you have during your trip and music on your travel playlist?
We don’t carry much because one of our absolute favourite things is to explore local cuisine. We love discovering a place through its food and like to eat whatever is available there. Since Kabir is still small we do carry a few snacks for him like dry fruits, biscuits etc but this is mainly for the journey. He is also adventurous with food now and tried local food with us. Music on road trips are a mix of all our favourite songs. We go from mellow acoustic music to AR Rehman to loud, fun Bollywood or Tamil music! We throw it all in!
How has your lockdown been?
It was difficult initially, to be cooped up at home all the time. But we have absolutely loved spending so much time together as a family. And we have learnt so much, especially that you really don’t need much to live a happy life.
Your first road trip post COVID 19?
Nothing planned yet but will most probably be something close by, probably within Karnataka or around. Our tourism industry has been hit badly and it’s time to start giving back and helping our local small businesses recover.
5 tips for road trip enthusiasts?
1. Plan the route. Find all options and choose the best route to get to your destination.
2. Leave early. We always try and leave by 5 am so we can get out of the city before the traffic begins.
3. Carry snacks so you can minimize unnecessary stops and it’s always fun to have something to munch on, right?
4. Have a fun playlist ready so you have good music to accompany you.
5. Always get your car checked and serviced before a road trip. You don’t want to have any issues enrooted.
